On July 29, 2018, more than 27,500 runners will gather for the 41st San Francisco Marathon. The 26.2-mile loop will take participants around the perimeter of the city, beginning on the Embarcadero waterfront at 5:30 am, with eight total waves of runners departing for a unique tour of the well-known tourist destination.

Along the race’s course, runners will encounter famous sights such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, and Golden Gate Park. The route also features 16 water stops, where athletes can rehydrate and obtain medical assistance if necessary. Those who finish the full course within six hours will qualify as Official Full Marathon Finishers, but all runners will receive finisher’s medals.

The San Francisco Marathon will also feature a number of exciting post-race activities, such as a Finish Line Festival and a beer garden. Included in the fun is an awards ceremony, in which the top-three male and female runners will receive a medal and plaque to commemorate their success.
